Renovation and Remodeling

Renovation means to restore a house or building back to a good state of repair. Renovations can be subtle (improvements) or drastic (remodeling). Remember construction involving renovation often refers to “restoring” or “repairing” an existing structure, simply replacing the old with the new, repairing or updating.

Remodeling means changing the appearance, structure, function or form of a building. A remodel will work to transform an existing design and layout of a room, while updating and repairing it at the same time.

Renovating or remodeling an existing building can be more cost effective and sustainable than demolishing and starting from scratch with a redesign/new construction.

Peet's Tips on Renovating

Commercial and Home

Think of commercial remodeling just like home remodeling. You spend as much of your time at work, if not more, so it is your home too! With that idea in mind, work on streamlined office or restaurant kitchen layouts, providing easy access to much used machinery and equipment. Peet’s years of experience allows him to talk you through layout plans and spacing issues.

Whether you are renovating your home or commercial property, aligning the design with your personality or brand is important. Taking the time to brainstorm features of yourself you would like to express in your newly renovated home, or differentiate yourself from your competitor will give you a starting point. You want your space to convey who you are and what you do. Don’t skip this important step.

Pitch a Temporary Camp

Building in all its forms can get messy, so plan ahead with an alternative area to work, cook or meet customers. Better yet, shut down your business for renovations, remembering to give customers fair warning. For homes, move your fridge and microwave to a temporary area so you are able to make light meals away from the construction site.
